S'entrelace / Entrelaza / Intertwines

Weaving is the craft of lacing fibers together to make fabric or cloth. Weaving often involves using a loom to hold the thread or yarn, although it can also be done by hand.

When different generations come together, the real magic happens, stories are told, and we honor not the physical space but the ones we remember.

Our current physical grounds of many places on our planet have experienced the transformation of community leaving traces of those that once lived there.

Those communities weave into the spaces and fray their way away from the physical spaces, but their essences are captured by the memories of those who lived and left.

S'entrelace / Entrelaza / Intertwines is an action art-making call to the community to weave in within the space a collective homage to those who had an impact on our memories by honoring them while collectively creating a win-and-fabric art installation intertwining a none permanent web of laces connected to those are remembered.

Workshops procedure

1. Mindful Start: Begin with intentional breathing, setting a meditative tone. Participants establish positive intentions, connecting personal experiences with creative expression.
2. Collaborative Art Creation: Engage in a collective effort to craft an outdoor installation using recycled fabric. Emphasize sustainability and shared creativity, culminating in a temporary installation at the chosen location.
3. Heart-Centered Focus: Encourage participants to listen to their hearts, discovering that impactful art stems from personal connections. Manifest positive thoughts through intentional breathing, aligning creativity with a deeper purpose.
4. Mindfulness and Letting Go: Guide a brief meditation to separate thoughts from self. Stress the importance of letting go of the need for certainty, fostering a mindset open to artistic exploration.
5. Childlike Expression: Conclude with symbolic self-hugs, promoting self-compassion. Encourage non-verbal communication for creative expression using recycled fabrics, embodying freedom and collective self-discovery.

Daniel is an interdisciplinary artist from Maracaibo, Venezuela who uses color, natural materials, light, and performance to explore political, social, and aesthetic issues. He is passionate about sharing the power of emotional growth through art making. He serves as the Community Engagement and Arts Integration Manager at the Arts Academy Elementary Charter School and is the Art Director/Co-Founder of EL PATIO DE MI CASA and the Residency program La Casita de Bambú.

Daniel's workshop proposal aims to learn how to use artmaking as a meditative practice (re-discover your sense of play) and to break down preconceived notions of what art can be. Each art-making activity will lead to the next one as we will be building temporary structures in the form of outdoor art installations throughout the approved parks and areas of the city. While each session builds on the previous, this series allows returning and new visitors to engage in art and wellness as individuals and connect with others.
